Lea, you are such an eloquent writer, and your story of items lost so thoughtlessly is heart-breaking. I am so happy thinking about your restoring all those lost bits of yourself!

I am so glad you found and kept those treasures from your past! That horse sketch is beautiful. I feel like a recovering artist myself - maybe not fully recovered yet, but at least on the way. I have one thing from my childhood - the only thing my parents kept and I treasure it. It's a wind-up music box stuffed toy horse that plays the tune "Pony Boy" and moves its head around while it plays. I so wish my parents had let me keep things that meant something to me but since we moved a lot it seems like with every move more things disappeared - they didn't ask, they just got rid of stuff they deemed unnecessary. I remember walking home from school one day and out in the middle of the street was a clown doll an aunt had made for me. I couldn't imagine why it was there but since I was not allowed to go out in the street I stood on the sidewalk crying. I went home to get my Mom to go get it for me and she wouldn't. She said I didn't need it any more and she had thrown it away. I was crushed! Even my dog went to a new home while I was at school one day. I don't think they ever realized how cruel that was to me. Over the years I have searched for the few things that meant the most to me - a Mr. Ed talking hand puppet, a Raggedy Ann doll, an orange haired troll doll (just found one recently!) and tea cups (reminders of my Grandmother). I was in a second hand store a year or so ago and found a wicker baby buggy like the one I had until I left home to get married. Since it was given away to someone in this area I'd like to think it's the one I once had so I intend to clean it up and restore it. So maybe I'm more of an artist being restored. Collecting what bits and pieces I've lost of myself through no fault of my own. I like the idea of being restored - I've lost myself so long ago - I need to find myself again. Thank you for sharing your story - I'm glad I'm not the only one!
