If you know my work you know i have been having a love affair with horses since the beginning… Well actually, this painting WAS that beginning. i painted this horse in July 2017 while on vacation at a small pond in Maine. i was in the middle of a course that was a huge catalyst in my journey back to art and myself, and one of the assignments was to paint freedom. i immediately knew i had to paint a horse, but i had not painted a horse since i was in my teens. This is the first horse in my Origins body of work, and it is the first Freedom Horse, of which many followed! This piece is also significant because it provided an emotional and artistic breakthrough. As i painted it i felt liberated and free to experience life my way, free to rise above the thoughts and feelings that had weighed me down. This painting is an expression of that energy, like a fresh breeze on your bare skin, or the fast current of a river pulling away the stress and worry. Freedom.
