Artist Statement

I create to discover what is true. Painting is how I listen, and how I bring what is hidden into the light. The truths discovered are deeply personal, yet often speak to something universal. My hope is that, in seeing the work, you won’t simply see what I discovered, you’ll find something ready to be seen within yourself.
For much of my life, I believed that if I looked inside myself, I would find nothing—no clarity, no meaning, just emptiness. That belief shaped the way I lived and the choices I made, always searching outside for direction, purpose, and satisfaction.
Painting became my way inside.
Each piece is exploration and discovery, intention and dream. As I paint, a truth emerges which might never have reached me any other way. What I discover is deeply personal, but also surprisingly universal: there is something within you worth finding.
I begin each painting with original writing, often created spontaneously during the process. If you look closely you will find windows into these early layers, a reminder of the layers and deep meaning which are within us.
Artist Bio
I grew up in a small Maine town in a renovated farmhouse surrounded by acres of fields and woods. My creativity was recognized early through awards in writing and painting, and a scholarship to pursue formal art study. But life took an unexpected turn when illness forced me to leave school and stop making art.
By the time I recovered, I had adopted the belief that becoming a professional artist meant being a starving artist. I abandoned that dream and built a successful career in graphic design. Yet by midlife, I felt called back to painting.
A dream showed me the path forward. I joined an intuitive art coaching program that opened up my creativity and introduced me to the healing power of art. Wanting to share that experience with others, I began coaching while continuing to develop my own artistic practice.
Several years later, I felt called to take the next step: to become a professional artist. This time, I was ready to confront the belief that had held me back for so long. I was ready to challenge the idea that a life devoted to art was beyond my reach.
In March 2026, I graduated from the Milan Art Institute’s Mastery Program, deepening my technical skills and developing my artistic voice and style. I’m proud to have challenged a belief that once made my dream seem impossible and to be building the life as an artist I once thought I couldn’t have.
Today, my studio in Maine is where I explore the possibilities of color, texture, and imagery to make the inner world visible. When I’m not painting, I recharge with walks in the woods, climbing trees, and immersing myself in wild water.
“Each painting creates a space where you can see yourself more clearly, hear your inner wisdom, and embody your truth.”
— Larissa Davis
In my studio, I am currently breaking limits painting cheetahs, which I feel example and embody the energy of the limit breaker. Beyond the studio, I am inspired by the natural world—climbing trees, dazzling my eyes with nature's beauty, and immersing myself in the rhythms of the earth. Looking ahead, this winter I will be bringing my art to several art shows in Florida, and painting every other moment. I can't wait to see what art Florida inspires. Mermaids anyone?
Artistic Approach
In my artistic practice, I work to give form to what has remained unseen. I make visible what has been hidden, lost, or buried beneath the surface. I draw from dreams, animals, and the relationship between humans and nature to create images that express inner states not immediately visible.
My process begins with writing—sometimes individual words, sometimes poems that carry intention and desire. These words inform the work but may be partially obscured in the final painting, reflecting the deeper meaning within. I use spray paint, inks, acrylic, gold leaf, oils, and markers to build layered surfaces where early marks remain present. Leaving traces of what lies beneath is central to my process and voice.
Creation is where I meet myself honestly. I do not work within a fixed style; I follow what wants to take form until it is complete.
