Behind the painting:

I almost painted over this at one point. I was feeling frustration with some self-imposed limitations and judgments which were restricting my expression. I set it aside and shortly thereafter came across the work of an art quilter who creates the most amazing animals, and horses in particular. The texture of her work inspired me to return to this painting.

Born Free is part of a series I began in 2017. It started with a green horse, then a red horse, then a purple horse… each with a specific focus such as release, passion, and joy. The focus of Born Free is inspired by the purification space facilitated by Jacqueline Hobbs, oraclegirl.org:
